Michel Corrette – Magnificat du cinquième ton

In 2020 many organ recitals have been cancelled because of the Covid 19 pandemic. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to perform at Portsmouth Cathedral in September and the programme included this delightful, six-movement Magnificat by Michel Corrette.

Listen out for the charming nightingale stop towards the end of the third movement.. I don’t know why the stop label calls it Pyrrhocorax Thomae but it gives a suitably rustic sound to the musette.
